Crochet Doodles

When I was in school, I always had a spare piece of paper that I took with me to every class everyday. A new day would bring a new, fresh, ready-to-be-abused sheet of dead tree. By the end of the day it'd be full of lyrics, animals, flowers, signatures, random observations, and probably ornate swear words. It wasn't that I didn't pay attention (I had rather good grades, thanks very much) but that I don't like to just sit and listen. I could hear my teacher clearly and observantly and still draw a basic daisy twelve times. I do the same with crochet.

Sometimes, I want to make something. It doesn't make the slightest dent of a difference that I have no idea what I want to make. I've destroyed the first yards of skeins chaining, pulling, magic circling, pulling, chaining and working two rows, pulling, and starting again until the yarn is so splitty it's useless. My success rate with this is probably a 60-40 of good to bad. Most of the time, whatever I come up with is decent enough to keep. Once in awhile I'll have that random moment of "wow... this came from my brain?" and I'll rush to write it out while it still makes sense. Then again, I have those times when I have to snip the yarn, start fresh, and make myself make something even if it's just a basic beanie.

You can't really see it very well, but these are a bit 3-D. I used my favorite technique of connected rounds. Chained a bit, dc'd back, connected, dc'd a bit. Then I hid the seam in the back, worked a few stitches, wrapped it around, and connected in back. I'll write out the real pattern when I do the necklace from last night.

Do you do any of that? Ever have a skein of yarn just flat refuse to become something? Ever make something awesome just because you couldn't keep your hands still? Ever come up with a complete disaster because you weren't paying close enough attention? I don't know what I'm doing half the time.

Well, I finished the bag and even wrote down the notes needed to type out the pattern. If I may be completely and boldly honest with you, I simply don't feel like typing it right now. It'll take many, many words and a few explanations and I can't get my head around it tonight. I'm rather fond of it, though. I may even force myself out of Hobbit Mode and get to the store later to find some colors to make a new one. I'm still a bit fidgety about the handles. Handles are so fidgety anyway.
It hangs nicely under the arm, stays on the arm due to width, and has a decent sized body. I could easily fit two Caron One Pounders in there. My coworker says I should've made the body bigger. I dunno. Wouldn't it be darling ombre'd with dark colors fading to the top? Then again, that's a lot of ends to weave...

Stinking fidgety handles! I probably cut it a little more sharply than I should have. I think I was too anxious to be done with the decreases.

Some of the decreases are a wee bit obvious. I take comfort in that it's likely only obvious to fellow hookers. Even then you probably have to be looking for it.

I'm thinking I want teals, turquoises, and grays. I love gray days and would adore a bag that would be like taking one with me. We recently had our first real gray day of the season Thursday and it made me so very happy. The weather here certainly seems to have cooled rather decidedly over the weekend. Stifling Oklahoma heat can take its toll on a girl after awhile. We didn't really get a fall or winter last year. We went from "ugh, it's hot and humid" to a few chilly days and then right back into "ugh." I'm excited for a change in the weather, the new football season, and the rush that comes with the last few months of the year.

Thank you for reading!
