Anyway. Here it is.
Why do we feel we must look at the camera? Know what, just look at the hat...
First of all, I know it's weird to take pictures of myself and then complain about how they look. Let's keep a couple of things in mind here. One, I'm in an office that has a yellow-based beige paint job. It makes everything even slightly yellowish turn YELLOW. Two, that office has many, many low-hanging fluorescent lights. Those things are harsh on anything. Three, my camera phone is superweird in that the "picture" button and "back" button are rightnexttoeachother and it drives me nuts. This is probably my "don't you dare delete" glare.
And most importantly, I don't have anyone else to model my hats, but I don't think you ever get the real "feel" or essence of a hat when it lies flat on a desk. They always always always just look like really big flat things and I hate it. When choosing between hatred of my image and hatred of wonky looking hats, I pick the lesser evil. Which is me. Which seems wrong...
To the hat!
**Reminder: this is NOT my pattern. This is my pattern MODIFICATION of someone else's lovely idea. The only reasons I type it out are because I use different terminology and I start it in a different place to make the ends work. Not my pattern. **
- used Caron One Pounder Baby in Denim
- used "H" Bates hook
- multiples of 14 a must!
(as always, if you think you need just a bit bigger or smaller, adjust your hook size and maybe even your yarn type first. 14 stitches is a big deal in smaller items like hats and headbands)
Round 1: Magic circle > chain 2, 14 dc. connect with slip stitch to first dc. close circle. (14)
Round 2: chain 2, 2dc in same stitch. 2dc in each stitch around. (28)
Round 3: chain 2, 2dc in same stitch, 1 dc in next stitch. 2dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next stitch around. (42)
Round 4: chain 2, 2dc in same stitch, 1 dc in next two stitches. 2dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next two stitches around. (56)
Round 5: chain 2, 2dc in same stitch, 1 dc in next seven stitches. 2dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next seven stitches around. (63)
Round 6: chain 2, 2dc in same stitch, 1 dc in next eight stitches. 2dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next eight stitches around. (70)
Round 7: chain 2, dc in same stitch. dc around. (70)
Round 8: chain 2. (dc, dc, 2dctog, 2dctog, dc, dc, dc, dc, 2dc, 2dc, dc, dc) around. (70)
*start pattern in same stitch as chain 2*
Repeat Round 8 until length desired. I think I used five.
Last Round: chain 1, hdc around.
Notes:
- Rounds 5 and 6 are staggered like that because I was afraid going straight from increase rounds to pattern would create a wave or bulge.
- Round 7 is also there for the same general reason - to provide a buffer.
- The last round was added to give a finished look. I simply didn't like the way it looked without some sort of edge or border.
Modifications:
- throw some color changes in there
- try some puff stitches along the way
- throw in a buffer line or two (straight dc across) if you want to neutralize the ripple a bit
- I bet this would be really cute if you made it a slouch and used Round 8 as the band when you brought it back in. I might try to make on just to see if it works.
